被 marks the passive: the subject receives the action. It is common when something goes wrong or when the doer is unknown, and the doer may be left out.

The one who receives the action

The order is receiver + 被 + doer + verb + result. 我的手机被弟弟拿走了。 My phone was taken away by my younger brother. The receiver stands first and the doer follows 被.

क्रम है प्राप्तकर्ता + 被 + करने वाला + क्रिया + परिणाम। 我的手机被弟弟拿走了। मेरा मोबाइल छोटे भाई ने ले लिया। प्राप्तकर्ता पहले आता है और करने वाला 被 के बाद।

With and without the doer

O 被 (doer) V + result. 杯子被打破了。 The cup was broken. 杯子被弟弟打破了。 The cup was broken by my younger brother. The result after the verb is required, just as with 把.

कर्म 被 (करने वाला) क्रिया + परिणाम। 杯子被打破了। कप टूट गया। 杯子被弟弟打破了। कप छोटे भाई से टूट गया। 把 की तरह क्रिया के बाद परिणाम आवश्यक है।

The passive in real life

我的自行车被偷了。 My bicycle was stolen. 问题已经被解决了。 The problem has already been solved. 他没有被邀请。 He was not invited. 衣服被雨淋湿了。 The clothes got wet in the rain.

我的自行车被偷了। मेरी साइकिल चोरी हो गई। 问题已经被解决了। समस्या पहले ही हल हो चुकी है। 他没有被邀请। उसे आमंत्रित नहीं किया गया। 衣服被雨淋湿了। कपड़े वर्षा में भीग गए।

被 without a result

Learners write 我的书被看了. As with 把, the verb needs an outcome: 我的书被看完了 (my book was finished). Negative 被 sentences use 没: 杯子没被打破。

शिक्षार्थी 我的书被看了 लिखते हैं। 把 की तरह क्रिया को परिणाम चाहिए: 我的书被看完了 (मेरी पुस्तक पढ़ पूरी हो गई)। नकारात्मक 被 वाक्यों में 没 आता है: 杯子没被打破।

Choose the topic first

Decide which thing you are talking about, then put it first. If the sentence is about the phone, say 手机被…; if it is about the person, say 我被… The first noun is always the victim or receiver.

पहले तय कीजिए कि बात किस वस्तु की हो रही है, फिर उसे सबसे पहले रखिए। यदि वाक्य मोबाइल के बारे में है तो 手机被…; यदि व्यक्ति के बारे में है तो 我被… पहला संज्ञा सदा प्राप्तकर्ता होता है।
