不是…而是 corrects an assumption. The first part says what is wrong and the second gives the truth, so the emphasis always falls on the part after 而是.
Sentence Patterns — Word order, 是/有, questions, negation and the 把/被/了/过/着 patterns.
The frame is 不是 A 而是 B: 他不是不想去，而是没有时间。 It is not that he does not want to go, but that he has no time. Both parts are parallel, and the true point comes after 而是.
ढाँचा है 不是 A 而是 B: 他不是不想去，而是没有时间। ऐसा नहीं है कि वह जाना नहीं चाहता, बल्कि उसके पास समय नहीं है। दोनों भाग समानांतर होते हैं, और सच्ची बात 而是 के बाद आती है।
这不是我的书，而是他的书。 This is not my book, but his book. 他不是老师，而是医生。 He is not a teacher, but a doctor. 问题不是很难，而是我没有复习。 The problem is not that it is hard, but that I did not revise.
这不是我的书，而是他的书। यह मेरी किताब नहीं, बल्कि उसकी किताब है। 他不是老师，而是医生। वह शिक्षक नहीं, बल्कि डॉक्टर है। 问题不是很难，而是我没有复习। समस्या यह नहीं कि वह कठिन है, बल्कि यह कि मैंने दोहराया नहीं।
Use this pattern to correct a misunderstanding politely: 他不是懒，而是太累了。 He is not lazy, but too tired. 事情不是这样的，而是另有原因。 That is not how it is; there is another reason.
गलतफहमी को विनम्रता से सुधारने के लिए यह प्रतिरूप लगाएँ: 他不是懒，而是太累了। वह आलसी नहीं, बल्कि बहुत थका है। 事情不是这样的，而是另有原因। बात ऐसी नहीं है; कोई और कारण है।
Do not write 不是…就是, which means either or. Do not omit 而 in written Chinese. Do not reverse the order; the corrected point always comes second.
不是…就是 न लिखें, जिसका अर्थ है या तो या। लिखित चीनी में 而 न छोड़ें। क्रम उलटा न करें; सुधरा हुआ बिंदु सदा दूसरे स्थान पर आता है।
Say the whole frame aloud and stress the part after 而是, because that carries the real meaning: 不是…, 而是…。 Keep A and B the same kind of phrase.
पूरा ढाँचा ज़ोर से बोलें और 而是 के बाद वाले भाग पर जोर दें, क्योंकि वही वास्तविक अर्थ रखता है: 不是…, 而是…। A और B एक ही प्रकार के वाक्यांश रखें।
HSK 4 reading asks what the speaker really means. After 不是…而是 the answer is always the part after 而是.
HSK 4 पठन पूछता है कि वक्ता का वास्तविक अर्थ क्या है। 不是…而是 के बाद उत्तर सदा 而是 के बाद वाला भाग होता है।
