Usage & Register HSK6
A parenthetical expression is a word or phrase inserted into a sentence to show attitude, source, emphasis or explanation. It is set off by commas and can usually be removed without breaking the grammar, which makes it a useful clue to the speaker attitude.

Common forms are 说实话, 毫无疑问, 据说, 据了解, 换句话说, 严格来说, 总的来说 and 你看. The phrase is set off by commas and can usually be removed without breaking the grammar. It adds the speaker attitude, the source of the information or a restatement of the main idea.

Parentheticals are common in meetings, news and opinion writing. They soften a disagreement (说实话), mark a source (据了解), restate an idea (换句话说) or summarise (总的来说). In speech, the pause around the phrase does the same work as the commas.
अंतर्निवेशित अभिव्यक्तियाँ बैठक, समाचार और राय-लेखन में सामान्य हैं। वे असहमति कोमल करती हैं (说实话), स्रोत बताती हैं (据了解), विचार दोहराती हैं (换句话说) या सारांश देती हैं (总的来说)। बोलचाल में वाक्यांश के दोनों ओर का ठहराव अल्पविरामों का काम करता है।
The most common error is overuse: a sentence with three parentheticals sounds uncertain. 我据说 is wrong because 据说 has no personal subject. 说实话 belongs to informal or semi-formal talk, while 毫无疑问 works in both speech and writing. Missing commas can make the phrase look like part of the main clause.
सबसे सामान्य गलती अधिक प्रयोग है: तीन अंतर्निवेशित अभिव्यक्तियों वाला वाक्य अनिश्चित लगता है। 我据说 गलत है क्योंकि 据说 का कोई व्यक्तिगत कर्ता नहीं होता। 说实话 अनौपचारिक या अर्ध-औपचारिक बोलचाल का है, जबकि 毫无疑问 बोलचाल और लेखन दोनों में चलता है। अल्पविराम छूटने पर वाक्यांश मुख्य उपवाक्य का भाग दिखने लगता है।
Remove the phrase and check whether the sentence still makes sense. If it does, the phrase is parenthetical. Put it at the start or after the subject, and keep commas on both sides. One parenthetical per sentence is usually enough.

HSK6 reading often uses 插入语 to carry the author attitude. 毫无疑问 signals certainty, 据说 signals a source the author does not guarantee, and 换句话说 signals a restatement. These phrases are often the key to an inference question.
