Tones & Pinyin HSK3
Erhua adds a curled r to the end of a syllable, especially in northern Mandarin. It changes the final sound rather than adding a full syllable, and many common words use it.

Say the syllable, then curl the tongue tip up as the vowel ends. 哪儿 na3r sounds close to narr, and 一点儿 yi4dian3r sounds like yee-dyar. The 儿 never takes its own tone.

哪儿 na3r (where), 这儿 zhe4r (here), 那儿 na4r (there), 一点儿 yi4dian3r (a little), 玩儿 wan2r (to play), 一会儿 yi1hui4r (a moment). The base syllable keeps its tone.
哪儿 na3r (कहाँ), 这儿 zhe4r (यहाँ), 那儿 na4r (वहाँ), 一点儿 yi4dian3r (थोड़ा), 玩儿 wan2r (खेलना), 一会儿 yi1hui4r (थोड़ी देर)। मूल शब्दांश का सुर वही रहता है।
Erhua is common in shops and homes in the north: 等一下儿 (wait a moment), 去那儿 (go there), 买一点儿 (buy a little). In the south many speakers drop it, so recognise it more than you produce it.
उत्तर में दुकानों और घरों में 儿化 सामान्य है: 等一下儿 (थोड़ी देर रुकिए), 去那儿 (वहाँ जाइए), 买一点儿 (थोड़ा खरीदिए)। दक्षिण में अनेक वक्ता इसे छोड़ देते हैं, इसलिए इसे पहचानना अधिक ज़रूरी है।
Learners often say na3-er with two clear syllables. That sounds like a separate word. The 儿 must blend into the syllable before it: na3r, not na3 er.
शिक्षार्थी na3-er को दो स्पष्ट शब्दांशों में बोलते हैं। वह अलग शब्द जैसा लगता है। 儿 को पहले शब्दांश में मिलना चाहिए: na3r, na3 er नहीं।
Do not add 儿 by rule. Memorise 哪儿, 一点儿, 玩儿 and 一会儿 as whole words, then notice new ones while listening.
儿 को नियम से न जोड़िए। 哪儿, 一点儿, 玩儿 और 一会儿 को पूरे शब्दों की तरह याद कीजिए और सुनते समय नए शब्द पहचानिए।
HSK listening uses erhua in short dialogues, and pinyin may print it as na3r. If you hear a curled ending, match it to the plain word you already know.
