而已 at the end of a sentence means that is all: it plays down what came before and makes it sound small or simple.
Sentence Patterns — Word order, 是/有, questions, negation and the 把/被/了/过/着 patterns.
而已 comes at the very end, often after 只是 or 不过: 我只是开玩笑而已。 It softens a statement and tells the listener not to read extra meaning into it.
而已 बिल्कुल अंत में आता है, प्रायः 只是 या 不过 के बाद: 我只是开玩笑而已। यह कथन को कोमल बनाता है और सुनने वाले से कहता है कि इसमें अतिरिक्त अर्थ मत ढूँढिए।
我只是问问而已。 这不过是个小问题而已。 他去北京只是出差而已。 他说说而已，别当真。
我只是问问而已। मैंने केवल पूछा भर है। 这不过是个小问题而已। यह केवल एक छोटी समस्या है। 他去北京只是出差而已। वह बीजिंग केवल काम से गया है। 他说说而已，别当真। उसने केवल कहा भर है, गंभीरता से मत लीजिए।
In polite talk 而已 stops a compliment from sounding too heavy: 我只是帮了一点忙而已. It keeps the speaker modest without denying the help.
विनम्र बातचीत में 而已 किसी प्रशंसा को बहुत भारी होने से रोकता है: 我只是帮了一点忙而已। यह सहायता को नकारे बिना वक्ता को विनम्र रखता है।
而已 cannot stand before the verb or in the middle of a sentence: 而已我只是问问 is wrong. It is a sentence-final particle, and nothing may follow it.
而已 क्रिया से पहले या वाक्य के बीच नहीं आ सकता: 而已我只是问问 ग़लत है। यह वाक्य के अंत का कण है और इसके बाद कुछ नहीं आता।
If you can add 没什么大不了的 after the sentence, 而已 fits. It repeats the earlier words rather than adding new information.
यदि वाक्य के बाद आप 没什么大不了的 जोड़ सकें, तो 而已 ठीक बैठता है। यह पहले कही बात दोहराता है, नई सूचना नहीं जोड़ता।
In reading, 而已 marks a modest or dismissive tone. If a question asks about the attitude of the writer, options such as proud or angry do not fit a sentence ending in 而已.
पठन में 而已 विनम्र या उपेक्षापूर्ण लहजा दिखाता है। यदि प्रश्न लेखक के लहजे के बारे में हो, तो गर्व या क्रोध जैसे विकल्प 而已 पर समाप्त वाक्य में फिट नहीं होते।
