过 jīngyàn

Sentence Patterns HSK2

Put 过 guo after a verb to say "have ever done it". 我去过中国 means "I have been to China" as a life experience, not as a completed past action.

Lesson

Verb 过

The 过 sits right after the verb: 去过 (have been), 吃过 (have eaten), 看过 (have seen). The negative is 没 + verb + 过: 我没去过.

过 क्रिया के ठीक बाद आता है: 去过 (गया है), 吃过 (खाया है), 看过 (देखा है)। नकार रूप 没 + क्रिया + 过 है: 我没去过।

Asking about experience

你去过中国吗? Have you been to China? 我吃过饺子。 I have eaten dumplings. 我没看过那个电影。 I have not seen that film.

你去过中国吗? क्या तुम चीन गए हो? 我吃过饺子। मैंने डंपलिंग खाई है। 我没看过那个电影। मैंने वह फ़िल्म नहीं देखी।

过 versus 了

了 marks a completed action (我吃了 I ate). 过 marks an experience (我吃过 I have eaten before). One is about a finished event, the other about a whole life so far.

了 पूर्ण कार्य दिखाता है (我吃了 मैंने खाया)। 过 अनुभव दिखाता है (我吃过 मैंने पहले खाया है)। एक पूरी घटना के बारे में है, दूसरा अब तक के जीवन के बारे में।

Using 过 for a specific past

For "I ate at twelve yesterday" the event matters, so use 了: 我昨天十二点吃了。 过 is wrong because it asks about experience, not that one lunch.

"मैं कल बारह बजे खाया" में घटना मुख्य है, इसलिए 了 आता है: 我昨天十二点吃了। 过 ग़लत है क्योंकि वह अनुभव पूछता है, उस एक भोजन को नहीं।

过 in the HSK

HSK 2 listening asks "have you ever...", and the answer must contain 过. The negative keeps 没 with the same 过.

HSK 2 श्रवण में "क्या आपने कभी..." पूछा जाता है और उत्तर में 过 होना चाहिए। नकारात्मक रूप में भी 没 के साथ वही 过 रहता है।
