Which measure word where

条 for long thin things: 一条鱼 a fish, 一条路 a road, 一条裤子 a pair of trousers. 张 for flat things: 一张票 a ticket, 一张纸 a sheet. 台 for machines: 一台电脑 a computer, 一台电视 a TV.

条 लम्बी पतली वस्तुओं के लिए: 一条鱼 एक मछली, 一条路 एक सड़क, 一条裤子 एक पतलून। 张 चपटी वस्तुओं के लिए: 一张票 एक टिकट, 一张纸 एक पन्ना। 台 मशीनों के लिए: 一台电脑 एक कंप्यूटर, 一台电视 एक टीवी।

Counting servings and times

份 for a portion: 一份米饭 a portion of rice, 一份报纸 a copy of the paper. 次 for occurrences: 一次一次 one time, 我去过两次 I have been twice. 斤 for half a kilo of food.

Reaching for 个 again

Once 个 is known, learners use it everywhere and write 一个电脑. Machines take 台 and flat things take 张; 个 is only the safe fallback when no better measure word is known.

Store noun with measure word

Add the measure word to the flash card: not 电脑 but 一台电脑, not 票 but 一张票. The pair then comes out together when you speak.

Measure words in the HSK

HSK 2 tests 条, 张 and 台 directly. These are the measure words most often missed because 个 feels safe.
