Two third tones: the first becomes second

When two third tones meet, the first is pronounced with a rising second tone: 你好 ni3 hao3 -> ni2 hao3, 很好 hen3 hao3 -> hen2 hao3. The written tone number stays 3; only the voice changes.

Say the pair as one rise

The two syllables become one movement: low, then rising at the end. 所以 suo3 yi3 is said suo2 yi3, 水果 shui3 guo3 is said shui2 guo3.

Keeping both third tones

Learners read 你好 as ni3 hao3 with two dipping tones, which sounds broken. The first tone must rise: ni2 hao3.
