Characters & Radicals HSK2
Many characters differ by one small stroke. A mnemonic for the single stroke that separates them is worth more than writing the whole character fifty times.
Characters & Radicals — Stroke order, radicals, and how characters are built from parts.
人 ren (person) and 入 ru (enter) differ by the slant of the second stroke. 大 da (big) and 太 tai (too) differ by the tiny dot. 目 mu (eye) and 日 ri (sun) differ by one horizontal line.
午 wu (noon) and 牛 niu (cow); 王 wang (king) and 玉 yu (jade); 天 tian (sky) and 夫 fu (husband). Learn each pair as a pair, with the telling stroke named aloud.
In a hurry a learner writes 大 for 太 or 天 for 夫. The word still looks Chinese, so the error survives proof-reading unless you check the stroke count.
Say "太 has the extra dot; 大 does not" every time you write them. A sentence attached to the stroke is remembered far longer than a visual image.
HSK 2 reading gives four look-alikes and asks which one is correct in a sentence. Slow down and compare stroke counts before choosing.
