Sentence Patterns HSK6
The formal connective 与此同时 means at the same time or meanwhile. It links two events or trends that unfold in the same period, and it usually opens the second sentence with a comma. It is a hallmark of news reports, annual reports and academic writing.
Sentence Patterns — Word order, 是/有, questions, negation and the 把/被/了/过/着 patterns.
The frame is clause A。与此同时，clause B。 The phrase stands at the head of the second clause and is followed by a comma. Both clauses describe events in the same time frame, often with different subjects. It is more formal than 同时 and more time-specific than 此外.
ढाँचा है उपवाक्य A。与此同时，उपवाक्य B। यह वाक्यांश दूसरे उपवाक्य के आरंभ में आता है और उसके बाद अल्पविराम लगता है। दोनों उपवाक्य एक ही समय-अवधि की घटनाएँ बताते हैं, प्रायः अलग कर्ताओं के साथ। यह 同时 से अधिक औपचारिक और 此外 से अधिक समय-केंद्रित है।
公司推出了新产品。与此同时，竞争对手也在调整价格。 城市人口不断增长。与此同时，住房需求也在上升。 他在准备考试。与此同时，他还在打工。 气温持续升高。与此同时，冰川面积不断缩小。 Each second sentence marks a parallel event in the same period.
公司推出了新产品।与此同时，竞争对手也在调整价格। कंपनी ने नया उत्पाद लॉन्च किया। इसी बीच प्रतिस्पर्धी भी कीमतें बदल रहे हैं। 城市人口不断增长。与此同时，住房需求也在上升। शहर की आबादी लगातार बढ़ रही है। इसी बीच आवास की माँग भी बढ़ रही है। 他在准备考试。与此同时，他还在打工। वह परीक्षा की तैयारी कर रहा है। इसी बीच वह काम भी कर रहा है। 气温持续升高。与此同时，冰川面积不断缩小। तापमान लगातार बढ़ रहा है। इसी बीच ग्लेशियर का क्षेत्र लगातार घट रहा है। हर दूसरा वाक्य उसी अवधि की समानांतर घटना बताता है।
News reports use 与此同时 to place a second development beside the first without claiming a cause. Annual reports use it to set growth beside risk, and academic writing uses it to compare two trends over the same years.
समाचार-रिपोर्ट में 与此同时 दूसरी घटना को पहली के साथ रखता है, कारण का दावा किए बिना। वार्षिक रिपोर्ट में यह वृद्धि के साथ जोखिम रखता है, और अकादमिक लेखन में एक ही वर्षों की दो प्रवृत्तियों की तुलना करता है।
A common error is to use 与此同时 for events that happen one after another: 他先吃饭。与此同时，他去上班 is wrong because the actions are sequential. Another error is to use it as a mere addition like 此外. It also cannot sit after the verb in the middle of a clause.
सामान्य भूल 与此同时 को ऐसी घटनाओं के लिए प्रयोग करना है जो एक के बाद एक होती हैं: 他先吃饭。与此同时，他去上班 ग़लत है क्योंकि क्रियाएँ क्रम में हैं। दूसरी भूल इसे 此外 की तरह केवल जोड़ के रूप में प्रयोग करना है। यह उपवाक्य के बीच क्रिया के बाद भी नहीं आ सकता।
Draw a short timeline and place both events on it. If the two marks overlap, 与此同时 fits. If one mark comes after the other, use 随后 or 接着. If there is no time relation at all, use 此外.
छोटी समय-रेखा खींचिए और दोनों घटनाओं को उस पर रखिए। यदि दोनों चिह्न एक-दूसरे को ढकें, तो 与此同时 ठीक है। यदि एक चिह्न दूसरे के बाद आए, तो 随后 या 接着 प्रयोग कीजिए। यदि समय का कोई संबंध ही न हो, तो 此外 प्रयोग कीजिए।
In HSK 6 cloze, 与此同时 competes with 此外, 然而 and 因此. Look for two clauses in the same period and the absence of a cause or contrast. The phrase itself often supplies the only time clue in the sentence.
