Lesson

Verb 着 describes a state

着 shows the result of an action lasting on: 坐着 (sitting), 站着 (standing), 开着 (open), 穿着 (wearing). The focus is on the state, not on doing something.

着 किसी कार्य के बने रहने की अवस्था दिखाता है: 坐着 (बैठा), 站着 (खड़ा), 开着 (खुला), 穿着 (पहने हुए)। ज़ोर अवस्था पर है, कुछ करने पर नहीं।

Two verbs in a row

他坐着看书。 He reads while seated. 她穿着红衣服。 She is wearing red. 桌子上放着书。 Books are placed on the table.

他坐着看书। वह बैठकर पढ़ता है। 她穿着红衣服। वह लाल कपड़े पहने है। 桌子上放着书। मेज़ पर पुस्तकें रखी हैं।

着 versus 正在

正在 (+ verb) is "in the middle of doing": 我正在吃饭 (I am eating right now). 着 is the resulting state: 我坐着. They answer different questions.

正在 (+ क्रिया) का अर्थ "अभी कर रहा है" है: 我正在吃饭 (मैं अभी भोजन कर रहा हूँ)। 着 परिणामी अवस्था है: 我坐着। ये भिन्न प्रश्नों के उत्तर हैं।

Using 着 for "right now"

Learners write 我吃着饭 for "I am eating now". Ongoing action needs 正在: 我正在吃饭. 着 would make it a state, which is odd here.

"मैं अभी खा रहा हूँ" के लिए शिक्षार्थी 我吃着饭 लिखते हैं। चल रही क्रिया को 正在 चाहिए: 我正在吃饭। 着 से यह अवस्था बन जाता है, जो यहाँ अनुपयुक्त है।

着 in the HSK

HSK 2 gives a picture-like sentence (person seated, door open) and asks for 着. Ask yourself whether the sentence shows a state; if so, choose 着.

HSK 2 चित्र जैसा वाक्य देता है (व्यक्ति बैठा, दरवाज़ा खुला) और 着 पूछता है। स्वयं से पूछिए कि वाक्य अवस्था दिखाता है या नहीं; यदि हाँ, तो 着 चुनिए।
